Anne Patterson, the US ambassador in Cairo met on Monday the Minister of Justice Counselor Adel Abdel-Hamid, in his office at the Justice Department, to inquire about the investigation being carried out on several NGO's including U.S. organizations. Anne Patterson met Adel Abdul-Hamid for more than half an hour about this investigation currently carried out by Egyptian authorities over the funding by foreign bodies of NGO's operating in Egypt. The justice minister explained that these investigation were carried out in accordance with Egyptian law which strictly regulates the funding of foreign parties operating in Egypt. The justice minister also explained that enquiries were being carried out over demonstrations that took place last month outside government buildings including one which lead to the burning down of the Archive building in Cairo which led to losses of invaluable documents.
