Yemeni security officer shot dead in Sanaa

Two gunmen assassinated a Yemeni security officer Wednesday in the central area of capital Sanaa. Witnesses told Arabstoday that gunmen arrived on a motorcycle and shot anti-terrorism official Khalid Sawary at a local restaurant. They added that Sawary died on the spot from head wounds, as gunmen fled the scene. A security source in Sanaa told Arabstoday that the incident had hallmarks of an "al-Qaeda attack." Yemeni authorities hold the organisation responsible for a series of attacks targeting Yemeni intelligence, army and police officials during the last 12 months.
