
At least seven people were left with serious injuries when a boiler at a brewery plant in Luanshya town, Copperbelt Province exploded, state media reported on Thursday.
The explosion, which occurred following an electrical fault, also caused extensive damage to property and some nearby buildings. However, no deaths were reported by far.
Copperbelt Police Commissioner Charity Katanga said the seven people, employed as brewers, sustained injuries in the inferno but that they were out of danger, according to the Times of Zambia.
The victims suffered burns and fractured legs, she added.
Security was tight at the plant as many workers, those with relatives and the general public, rushed to see what had happened.
