At least one person has been injured in the shocking attack, which took place on Flandrische Street at 3:45am local time, The Express reported.
It is believed he was stabbed in the thigh before running to his Mercedes and fleeing the scene. The men shot at the vehicle's windows and tyres as he drove away.
Local media said a possible suspect was apprehended at Habsburgring shortly after, while another man was stopped by police at Moltkestrasse.
Eyewitnesses said attack took moments after the men – who were "exceptionally well-dressed" – were seen having an argument with the victim.
The motives behind the attack are not yet known, but Germany is on high-alert after a string of Islamic State (ISIS) terror attacks this summer.
Teenager Ali David Sonboly killed nine people in Munich on 23 July after luring them to a McDonald's with the promise of free food.
Just two days later, a failed asylum seeker who pledged alliance to the jihadist group blew himself up outside a wine bar in the town of Ansbach.
