10 people killed in Ramadi clashes as UN urges calm

At least 10 people were killed in clashes that erupted when Iraqi policemen moved to dismantle a Sunni Muslim protest camp in the country's western Anbar province on Monday, while the UN called for tranquility and dialogue. An Iraqi police source told KUNA that 10 people, including three children, were killed in the gunfight that took place in Ramadi and Fallujah. At least 35 others were wounded and several houses were partly damaged during the clashes between security forces and protesters, the source said. Meanwhile, UN Secretary General's Special Representative for Iraq Nickolay Mladenov voiced concern over the current situation in Anbar, calling on everybody to exercise self-restraint. He emphasized that differences between both warring parties should be resolved through dialogue and an all-out political process involving all political components.
