10,000 Indonesian police officers to secure Asia-Africa Conference 2015

The National Police has deployed 10,000 personnel to secure the 60th anniversary celebrations of the Asian-African Conference (AAC) in Jakarta and Bandung, West Java, to be held from April 19 to 24, a spokesman said, according to Antara News.

Spokesman for the National Police Headquarters, Sr. Comr. Agus Rianto stated via text message on Saturday that 10,000 police officers have been assigned to secure the roads though which delegates from the 77 countries participating in the AAC 2015 will pass.

"As many as 10,000 police officers have been deployed as required, such as on roads (that will be used by the delegates) and at the venue of the event, among other places that need protection," he affirmed.

Rianto also pointed out that the situation in both Jakarta and Bandung was stable, and that there was no security threat so far.

Of the 10,000 National Police personnel, 3,000 are from the National Polices Mobile Brigade (Brimob), Head of Brimobs operation unit Sr. Comr. Leo Bona Lubis said.

"We deployed 500 Brimob officers to optimize the special command for the province of Jakarta (Polda Metro Jaya), while 2,500 others will be on standby at the Mobile Brigade Command Headquarters (Mako Brimob) in case additional security is required," he revealed.

For security in Bandung, Lubis noted that 1,015 Brimob personnel from the West Java Police and 400 others from Polda Metro Jaya will be deployed.

Brimob will deploy officers from various units, including the chemical-biological-radioactive unit, the medical unit and the intelligence unit, he added.

"We cannot disclose details related to snipers. They will be assigned at special spots," he remarked.

In addition, the Brimob team, Lubis affirmed, will coordinate with the Indonesian Military over the placement of snipers.
