At least 11 people were killed and 18 wounded in a new wave of shootings late Wednesday in the city of Karachi, Pakistan. Among the 11 killed two were members of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM). The new firing incidents in Karachi, which started earlier on Tuesday, raised the death toll to 16 people, security officials in Pakistan said. Most of the recent violent attacks which occurred near the tea stalls of Karachi urged police to place intense security measures, including the closure of the stalls during nighttime, (Pakistan Today) daily says. The police announced a red alert in Eastern Karachi and deployed additional police officers to ensure security to tea-stalls area, according to Pakistan Today. Karachi witnesses more than 1,000 violent deaths annually, according to (The Guardian). The Pakistani city has been witnessing since a long time a series of violent attacks due to ethnic and political tensions between the city's powerful parties, MQM, Hezb Al Shaab, Mohajir Qaumi Movement and the Islamic groups of Pakistan, over power.
