12 killed in Lebanon's Tripoli clashes

The death toll in the clashes of Lebanon's Tripoli rose to 12 killed and over 40 injured after three people were killed Sunday by sniper fire in Bab El Tebbaneh. A local security source told Xinhua that three people were killed in the resumption of exchanged sniper activity between the Mostly Alawite neighborhood of Jabal Mohsen and the Sunnite Ba El Tebbaneh. Clashes between the two rival neighborhoods had resumed in Tripoli after a relatively calm morning. Gunshots were heard and sniper activity was reported in al- Zahriyeh area and the international Tripoli highway. The army has been responding to the sources of the fire. Later on Sunday, caretaker Prime Minister Najib Miqati demanded that all Tripoli officials assume their responsibilities towards the unrest in the city. "Nothing is more important to me at the moment than protecting Tripoli," he said in a statement.
