
At least 14 people, including one Chinese nationa, were trapped after a small gold mine collapsed in Tanzania's northwestern region of Geita on Thursday, local police and the mine's management said.
Mponjoli Mwabulambo, Geita Regional Police Commander, said the accident occurred around 4 a.m. at the Chinese-invested RZT gold mine in Nyarugusu.
The mine's management told Xinhua that one Chinese national was among the the trapped, and that all the 14 were found alive and were in stable condition.
Rescue efforts involving the police, fire department and other stakeholders were underway to rescue those trapped inside the mine shaft.
