14 suspects in Tripoli KFC, Hardee's attack

Tripoli's police chief said Friday that 14 people have been arrested over last week's attack on the American fast food restaurants KFC and Hardee’s during protests in the northern city against a U.S.-made anti-Islam. According to the National News Agency, Brigadier General Bassam al-Ayyoubi said that the police have information about 22 other people involved in the violent protests. “A manhunt is under way to arrest them,” Ayyoubi said. He added that the 14 suspects had set the fast food restaurants ablaze and tried to storm the Tripoli Serail in protest over the low-budget film “Innocence of Muslims,” which has fanned global Muslim anger. “No one is above the law,” Ayyoubi said, assuring the Lebanese that the security forces will continue their mission. A group of protesters burned American and Israeli flags in Tripoli, north Lebanon, setting a KFC and Hardee’s on fire in a protest against “Innocence of Muslims,” which insults the Prophet Mohammad and sparked ongoing anti-U.S. protests in several countries. One protester was killed and over 27 others were injured when stone-throwing demonstrators clashed with authorities. (daily star)
