Proportion of the young population in the total population is announced as 16.6 percent in Turkey in 2012. TurkStat, Turkey's statistical authority, released the figures of "Youth In Statistics, 2012" on Friday. Ratio of young population and over in the total population was 16.6 percent as of the end of 2012. According to the special publication of TurkStat on youth population projections, it is expected that this figure will decrease to 15.1 percent in 2023, 11.7 percent in 2050, and 10.1 percent in 2075. Referring to the end of 2012, Turkey's total population was 75,627,384, and 12,591,641 people formed the young population of the country. TurkStat added, the proportion of young population was 15.1 percent in 1935, and it was approximately 20 percent between the years of 1980 and 2000, it showed a tendency to decrease after this year. 51.1 percent of young population was young males, and 48.9 percent of it were young females. TurkStat said when the proportion of young population in total population was analyzed by selected countries, one of the countries with the highest share of young population -- 15-24 age group -- in 2011 was Turkey with 16.8 percent. The proportion of young population of the average of the EU countries was 11.8 percent, 14.1 percent for the US, and 13.3 percent for Canada. This proportion was 17.2 percent for Brazil and 18.3 percent for Mexico, highlighted TurkStat.
