2-day demonstration in Malaysian capital ends

Tens of thousands of protesters began to disperse from the city center here as a two- day demonstration came to an end on early Monday.

Organized by the Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections or Bersih, the demonstration, starting from Saturday afternoon, has seen numerous protesters wearing yellow T-shirts coming out on the streets and expressing their dissatisfaction towards the government.

According to local media reports, Prime Minister Najib Razak said Sunday that the organizers of the demonstration do not care about the people's welfare, nor do they care about developing the rural areas.

Police has said that the rally was illegal and action would be taken against the organizers.

A five-point demand has been laid out by the protesters, namely free and fair elections, transparent government, right to demonstrate, strengthening parliamentary system and saving national economy.

Former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad came to the demonstration again on Sunday after his surprise visit there a day before.
