2 Israeli soldiers hurt in West Bank stabbing, attacker killed

Two Israelis were hurt in a Palestinian stabbing attack near a settlement in the northern West Bank on Wednesday, with the attacker killed shortly afterwards, the Israeli army said.
"There was a stabbing attack near Shilo junction. Two people were stabbed and taken to hospital. The terrorist was targeted and killed by IDF forces," a spokeswoman said, referring to the Israel Defence Forces.
Military sources said the wounded were two soldiers, one of whom was in serious condition after being stabbed in the neck. The second was said to have suffered light to moderate injuries.
The incident took place near the entrance to Shilo settlement on route 60, the main road linking the West Bank cities of Ramallah and Nablus.
Palestinian security sources confirmed they had sent an ambulance to pick up the body of the attacker but had no further details on the incident as the area had been sealed off.
Israel's emergency services confirmed paramedics had responded to a call about a stabbing near the entrance to the Maale Levona settlement near Shilo, in a statement which referred to only one victim.
"Paramedics are transferring a young man of around 20 to (Jerusalem's) Shaarei Tzedek hospital in serious condition with a stab wound to his upper body," a statement said.
There has been a surge in the number of stabbings and other lone wolf attacks by Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and annexed east Jerusalem since last summer's 50-day war in the Gaza Strip.
