The Port Said Criminal Court sentenced 21 defendants in last year's stadium massacre to death during a trial session held at the Police Academy premises in New Cairo on Saturday. They are convicted with murder and attempted murder in the stadium incident, which left 72 dead and 254 injured. The Port Said stadium carnage occurred in February 2012 after a soccer match when fans, allegedly of the local al-Masry team, assaulted supporters of rival al-Ahly. Clashes between Ultras Ahlawy and Green Eagles, the hard core fans of al-Ahly and al-Masry respectively, have been common in the past few months.
