A total of 22 people were injured Monday in a riot that erupted during a qualifying football match in Damietta governorate, some 150 km north of Cairo, official news agency MENA reported. The clashes broke out when the el-Zarqa team scored its second goal and narrowed the rival Suez team's chance to join the premier league, Abou Baker Al Hadidy, a security official, was quoted as saying. The report said security forces fired teargas to disperse the rioters. The injured included seven members of the central security forces and four players. Most of them were treated on the site and the rest were taken to nearby hospitals. Football fans are banned from premier league matches after more than 70 people were killed in a football match riot in Port Said in February 2012.
