At least three Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) members were killed in clashes with Turkish security forces in eastern Turkish provinces of Elazig and Bingol late Saturday. Sources said three rebels were killed in clashes in Elazig's Aricak and Bingol's Genc districts. Meanwhile, Turkish troops backed by military aircrafts have launched a large-scale operation in districts in southeastern province of Diyarbakir and eastern provinces of Mus and Bingol. The army continues to deploy troops to the area. Listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States and the European Union, the PKK took up arms in 1984 in an attempt to create an ethnic homeland in southeastern Turkey. Over 40,000 people have been killed in conflicts fuelled by PKK's separatist campaign in Turkey.
