Three police detectives assigned to guard a state prosecutor in southern Mexico have been shot to death by fellow officers in what an official calls an "absurd confrontation.", AP reported. The office of Morelos state Gov. Graco Ramirez says the confrontation was between detectives and state police officers. Ramirez says the shooting was either a breach of protocol or "a deliberate act to harm the security strategy" of the state just south of Mexico City. State government spokesman Jose Antonio Montes said three detectives were killed in Friday's pre-dawn shoot-out. Morelos has been hit hard by drug gang violence. The state was also the scene of the Aug. 24 shooting in which federal police wounded two U.S. CIA officers.
