A total of 3312 cases of arrest among Palestinians was documented in 2011, from which 113 prisoners were released in the Gilad Shalit swap deal, according to a report published on Monday. Abdul Nasser Ferwaneh, a researcher specialized in prisoners’ affairs, said the average number of arrests in 2011 were 276 cases per month, an average of nine cases per day. He added that the arrest cases included all segments of the Palestinian community, including different ages, and was not limited to males but also affected women, the sick and the disabled as well as lawmakers and political leaders. He said the total number of arrest cases witnessed a gradual decrease from 7612 in 2007 to reach its lowest rate in 2011.
