4 suspected attackers arrested after Jakarta blasts

Indonesian police on Thursday arrested four suspected militants believed to have been involved in the gun and bomb assault in the center of the capital, which killed at least six, Sky news reported.

Jakarta police spokesman Col. Muhammad Iqbal said that the attack in the Indonesian capital around the Sarinah shopping mall on Thamrin Street has ended with at least five attackers killed.

The attackers were cleared from the building they were holed up in and the operation ended after fresh shots were fired in the area.

The foreign offices of several countries, including Britain, Germany and Australia, issued warnings to its nationals in Indonesia.

In an earlier televised address Thursday, Indonesian President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo said the situation in Jakarta is under control and urged people to remain calm.

Meanwhile, the country’s intelligence chief, Sutiyoso, said there were no immediate indications that the attack was linked to the Islamic State group, as reported earlier.
