A four-way meeting was held in Washington to discuss the situation in Libya, spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Badr Abdel Aati said on Friday.
The get-together, which was held on the sidelines of a Washington-hosted anti-terror summit, comprised Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, US Secretary of State John Kerry, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and European Union Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini.
Abdel Aati noted that the meeting tackled the latest developments in Libya, especially the deteriorating security situation there.
"An Arab League (AL) draft resolution on the situation in Libya was probed as well," he said, adding that the officials did not rule out the possibility of sending peacekeeping forces to maintain security in Libya.
Shoukry, for his part, called on the UN Security Council to shoulder its responsibility toward Libya and support the Libyan government in its anti-terror war.
"This does not contradict with the necessity to promote the UN-supported National Dialogue," the spokesman concluded.
