44 ministerial secretaries sworn in as Sri Lanka's national government begins work

Forty four new Ministerial secretaries were appointed as Sri Lanka's new united government began work this week.

The secretaries include P. Sugathadasa who was appointed as the Ministerial Secretary to the Ministry of Tourism Development and Christian Affairs, Dr. R.S. Samarathunga who was appointed to the Ministry of Finance and C. Vageeshwara appointed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The new ministerial secretaries received their letters of appointment from the Presidential Secretary, P.B. Abeykoon.

Sri Lanka's new united government was sworn in with 43 ministers last week and a further 3 ministers took oaths before President Maithripala Sirisena on Wednesday.

In addition 19 state ministers and 21 deputy ministers were also sworn in at the Presidential Secretariat in capital Colombo.

The united government consist of the ruling United National Party (UNP) led by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and the opposition Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) led by President Sirisena.

Both parties have agreed to work together in the new parliament for the next two years.
