The police have registered 44 reports on possible violations of the election legislation at the mayoral elections in the Moscow regional town Zhukovsky on Sunday, the press service of the Moscow regional police department told Itar-Tass. “The police department in the Zhukovsky town district registered 44 reports on possible violations of the election legislation,” the press service said. “In the course of the day 16 people were detained for the foresaid law violations, gave their explanations and were released after that,” the press service reported. The police department noted the fact that “no violations of the public order were committed during the voting.” Chairman of the Moscow Regional Election Commission Irek Vildanov noted that the Zhukovsky election committee has counted the votes from 40 out of 52 polling stations (77%) so far. Commander of the Airlift and Rescue Centre of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM) Andrei Voityuk is leading with 37% of votes. Igor Novikov, who was supported by the Civic Platform of business tycoon Mikhail Prokhorov (27.9% of votes), and Communist Alexander Anikanov (25.4% of votes) are also among the frontrunners of the election race in Zhukovsky. Rock musician Sergei Troitsky has polled 2.3% of votes so far. Eleven candidates were running for Zhukovsky mayor. “If nothing extraordinary happens, a press conference devoted to the official final results of the mayoral elections will be held at 14:00 Moscow time on Monday,” Vildanov told reporters. The early mayoral elections were held in Zhukovsky over the fact that in late January 2013 mayor of this scientific township Alexander Bobovnikov, who occupied this post since 2000, resigned. First Deputy Mayor Stanislav Suknov became the Zhukovsky acting mayor.
