At least five worshipers died and several others injured on Friday when a makeshift metal roof at a mosque collapsed in North Nazimabad area of the city, according to Geo TV.
The temporary metal awning put in place to protect worshipers from the sun fell on the courtyard area following prayers at the Masjid-i-Usman near Landi Kotal Chowrangi, police and rescue officials said.
"I was in the mosque myself…people were offering a prayers following the conclusion of the (main) Friday prayer when we heard a loud crash following a gust of wind," police official Zulfiqar Haider.
The corrugated metal awning fell directly on worshipers, he said.
Eight injured people were brought to Abbasi Shaheed hospital, Assistant Police surgeon Dr. Rohina said.
Bodies of the dead were also moved to the hospital.
