5 people killed in tribal violence in Sudan's Darfur

Five people were killed in renewed clashes between two tribes at Um Dukhun locality in Sudan' s Central Darfur State, Khartoum's Alsahafa daily reported Thursday. "Clashes broke out between Salamat and Miseria tribes after two members of each tribe were killed. The total number of the people killed from both sides is so far five," the paper quoted Yahya Hussein, commissioner of Um Dukhun locality, as saying. Hussein said that military reinforcements from the state's capital of Zalenge are on the way to the locality. Tribal violence adds another dimension to the armed conflict in the Darfur region which has been suffering from the civil war since 2003. Over 100 people were killed in clashes between the two tribes last November, while similar confrontations claimed at least 136 lives in June and July last year.
