5 Tunisian insurgents flee to Algeria

Five Tunisian armed militants who killed a national guard on Monday have managed to flee to Algeria, Kapitalis news website reported on Tuesday, quoting a security source. The insurgents clashed with Tunisian security forces for over 24 hours, and then escaped from a joint army and national guard operation in a mountainous area 3 km from the border. The five men had taken refuge in a mountain grotto, where security forces found mattresses, food, cell phone recharging cards and an Algerian identity card, the report said. Earlier Tuesday, Tunisian national guard said in a statement that clashes did not resume during the day. The guard was buried in his native village in the governorate of Kairouan on Monday.
