50 implicated in Ukraine's protest massacre

A senior official from the Ukrainian parliament said Monday that around 50 people, including those in senior ranks, are suspected to be involved in a "massacre of demonstrators" during the recent anti-government protests. "We're going to announce a suspicion to about 50 persons, including high-ranking officials, for organizing the massacres," said Oleg Mahnitsky, the parliament's commissioner for monitoring activity of the public prosecutor's office. Some top-level officials of the law enforcement agencies were among the suspects, Mahnitsky said, without giving names. Parliament Speaker Alexandr Turchynov ordered the State Border Service to prohibit those implicated in the violence from leaving the country. So far, more than 80 people have been killed and hundreds of others injured during anti-government protests, which began last November to back the country's European integration and turned violent last Tuesday.
