6-magnitude quake jolts western Greek island

A strong earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale hit the western Greek island of Cephalonia in the Ionian Sea at 13:55 GMT on Sunday, according to the European Mediterranean Seismological Center. The epicenter, with a depth of around 24 km, was monitored at some 10 km northwest of the city of Argostolion and some 293 km west of Athens, the agency said. The institute also reported several aftershocks measuring between 3.7 and 4.4. Greek agencies have not yet released their estimates. There were limited power cuts on the island after the quake, according to initial reports from local media.
