7 more killed in violence in northeast Indian state of Assam

Seven more people have been killed over the past few days in new incidents of violence in the northeast Indian state of Assam, bringing the death toll of the communal violence to 87, the Press Trust of India reported on Sunday. Violence returned to Chirang district of the state Saturday evening when six bodies, all relief camp inmates, were found at a marketplace. At least two others were injured in the strife-ridden Kokrajhar district in Lower Assam, while police said that a body with injury marks was found in Dhubri district on Sunday morning, in a fresh outbreak of conflict since the violence began on July 19 between local Bodo people and Muslims. Angry protesters blocked a highway on Sunday, while two persons, including a woman, were injured by unidentified attackers near a railway station.
