Visiting Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas discussed on Tuesday evening with Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy the latest developments in the region. The two sides also expressed comfort regarding support to Palestinian authority and the recognition of the Palestinian State as a UN Non-Member Observer State, a statement from the Spanish prime minister's office said. The statement added that President Abbas thanked Spain for their support to the Palestinian case and their endorsement voting on last November 29th. The statement noted that the two sides also tackled developments in the Middle East and the peace process, both sides agreed on the importance of restarting the negotiation process with Israel as the only solution to achieve peace and prosperity in the region. The Spanish premier was also quoted in the statement as he called on the Palestinian and Israeli leaders to avoid all obstacles facing efforts the goals in achieving comprehensive peace between the two.
