Senior Chinese political advisor Abdul'ahat Abdulrixit here on Monday met with Jerry John Rawlings, former President of Ghana and the African Union (AU) high representative for Somalia. Abdul'ahat Abdulrixit, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), said bilateral friendly relations between China and Ghana have developed steadily over the years, achieving remarkable results from pragmatic cooperation in various fields. He added that China attaches great importance to China-Ghana relations, and the Chinese side is willing to make joint efforts with Ghana to promote the traditional friendship between the two countries to a higher level. "China is deeply concerned about the situation in Somalia, and will continue to support the efforts made by the United Nations, the AU and African countries to address the Somalia issue," said Abdul'ahat Abdulrixit. China will work together with the international community to play a constructive role in promoting the peace process in Somalia. Rawlings said Ghana is willing to further consolidate and strengthen the traditional Ghana-China friendship, so as to better benefit the two countries and peoples. He also thanked China for supporting and assisting the peace action taken by the AU in Somalia, committing to make unremitting efforts to promote the peace process in Somalia. Rawlings was invited by the Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs. Apart from Beijing, he has also attended the first China-Africa Think Tanks Forum in Hangzhou.
