A new poll by a famous Canadian market research and polling company found Thursday that four out of five British Colombians in west Canada think their country will suffer if Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is elected U.S. president.
Results of the online survey, conducted by Insights West from Sunday to Tuesday, show that 81 percent of the respondents from British Columbia province believe that an American presidency headed by Trump, a bombastic billionaire, would be "bad" for Canada.
Throughout the country, 67 percent of a representative sample of 1,002 Canadians agree that "President Trump" would be bad news for Canada.
The Insights West poll also indicates that Trump is particularly unpopular among women, as 71 percent think he would be a bad U.S. president for Canada.
Another group of Canadians who particularly dislike Trump comprises those who voted for the Liberal Party (80 percent) and the New Democratic Party (78 percent) in the country's federal election last October.
According to the poll, only one out of five Canadians believe Trump would be "very good" or "good" for Canada.
In contrast, Canadians' support, the poll revealed, is firmly behind Democratic senator Hillary Clinton.
More than half, or 55 percent, of the Canadians polled believe a presidency headed by the former U.S. First Lady and Secretary of State would be "very good" or "good" for Canada.
Clinton is well recognized by Canadians aged 55 and over (58 percent), British Colombians (63 percent) and voters for the Liberal Party (70 percent).
Only 21 percent of the Canadians polled believe that Texas Republican Senator Ted Cruz would be "good" for Canada if he was elected U.S. president.
