The chairman of the security transition coordination commission, Dr. Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai has resigned from his position. A source close to Dr. Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai said the decision was taken in order to nominate himself in the upcoming presidential elections, according to Afghan (Khaama Press). This comes as Dr. Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai earlier had announced that he will run for the next presidential election of Afghanistan. The deadline for the registration process of presidential election candidates will be completed by 6 October, and only one candidate has registered himself in the Independent Election Commission of Afghanistan for 2014 presidential run-off. Dr. Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai's resignation is followed by Haji Mohammad Mohaqiq's resignation from the Afghan parliament last week. Each potential candidate is obliged to resign from government posts in order to become eligible to register for the presidential elections.
