Afghan President Hamid Karzai vehemently denounced twin explosions in Pakistan's Northwestern tribal region of Kurram near the Afghanistan border. At least 57 people were killed and nearly 170 others injured as a result of the back-to-back explosions, including one suicide bombing, Pakistani officials said on Saturday. In a statement from his office, Karzai condemned the deadly assaults targeting fasting Muslims as an anti-Islam act that could not be justified in any way, Pajhwok Afghan News reported. The first bomb attached to a motorbike went off in the Main Parachinar Bazaar, with a second device exploding on the main road in the area. The bombs went off when people were buying Iftar (Fast breaking) items. According to the statement, the president extended his sincere condolences to the victims’ families and prayed for the swift recovery of the injured.
