Afghan and Western coalition forces said Saturday they have arrested the leader of a Taliban explosives cell in Afghanistan's Kandahar province. The insurgent commanded a unit that made improvised explosive devices, Khaama Press reported. The arrest capped a week of detentions or deaths of other Taliban leaders or insurgents. Afghan and NATO forces confirmed Saturday that Taliban leader Qari Nasratullah had been killed Friday during a security operation in Sar-e-Pul province. He is believed to have commanded more than 20 fighters, the report said. An undetermined number of insurgents were killed Saturday in Kunduz province during a search by Afghan and coalition security forces for a Taliban leader. Two other insurgents were in killed in fighting in Helmand province. Taliban leader Sher Ali, also known as Haji Ustad, was killed Tuesday in Kandahar province. He was believed to be gathering and delivering explosives for an attack against Afghan and Western forces, authorities said.. Afghan forces arrested insurgent leader Abdul Zahir Monday in Nimroz province. Zahir coordinated the flow of IEDs and weapons in the province, NATO said in a statement.
