Akef: Egypt to ride out constitutional declaration crisis

Former Muslim Brotherhood leader Mohamed Mahdi Akef has said Egypt will ride out the crisis of the constitutional declaration. Opinion polls reflect the Egyptian people's support for President Mohamed Morsi and stability, he told Saudi newspaper Al-Sharq. He rejected seeing the Egyptian people divided on the president's decisions. "Egyptians appear divided, but in reality, polls show people's support for its legal leadership," Akef said. The former MB leader said he is confident Egypt will be able to get over the recent crisis of the constitutional declaration, issued by Morsi on November 22. Several people took to the streets in Tahrir Square and several governorates to protest against the declaration, he went on to say. Akef said the situation in Egypt is not worrying, adding that the release of the declaration emanates from the president's keenness on establishing a state of institutions and law.
