Al-Assad congratulates new Chinese President Xi Jinping

President Bashar al-Assad on Friday sent a cable of congratulation to President Xi Jinping of China on the occasion of his election as the new President. President al-Assad expressed to the Chinese President his wishes for success and luck in his responsibilities so as to achieve more progress and prosperity for the friendly people of China. President al-Assad voiced his confidence in continuing consolidation of bilateral cooperation relations binding Syria and China and working together in the interest of the Syrian and Chinese people. Xi Jinping was elected president of China on Thursday by delegates to the annual meeting of China’s parliament, the National People’s Congress. He is also General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and was elected chairman of the Chinese Central Military Commission.
