Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit and United Nations Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura agreed on enhancing contacts on the Syrian crisis.
During a meeting on the fringe of the 71st session of the United Nations General Assembly, the UN envoy said the meeting tackled the latest developments in Syria, including means of reaching a stable ceasefire deal and resuming intra-Syrian talks, the spokesman for the AL chief said in a press release on Tuesday.
The talks tackled the outcome of the recent Arab foreign ministers' meeting on September 8 on Syria, Mahmoud Afifi said.
The meeting stressed the importance of getting the AL involved into any contacts on the Syrian crisis.
The UN envoy highlighted the importance of the AL role in settling the Syrian crisis, welcoming the AL's participation in intra-Syrian talks when resumed.
