Al-Ghanim asserts GCC security agreement not opposed to Kuwaiti constitution

National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim asserted on Thursday that the first article of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) draft security agreement is not opposed to Kuwaiti constitution nor the laws in force in Kuwait. The draft agreement's articles cannot in any case or circumstance stipulate any opposition to the Kuwaiti constitution or laws, Al-Ghanim stated to reporters following his attendance of the parliamentary foreign affairs committee's meeting, which was attended by foreign, interior, and justice ministers. Also, the GCC draft security agreement has been the subject of confusion and controversy in the Kuwaiti street, Al-Ghanim added, noting that today's meeting with the government side clarified many matters that confused some observers. In addition, the Parliament Speaker expressed his confidence that there was understanding between the parliamentary and the government concerning the GCC draft security agreement, indicating that much of the confusion in the Kuwaiti street was due to people's lack of information about agreements and articles.
