Al-Jarallah: Human rights major international relations' principles

Human rights have become major principles in international relations, Foreign Undersecretary Khaled Al-Jarallah said Tuesday, adding that the constitution of Kuwait is a "beacon of human rights." Speaking to reporters after a ceremony organized by the Foreign Ministry marking the launch of a book, "Human Rights in the State of Kuwait .. Fundamentals and Principles," Al-Jarallah said the book was an addition to documents and books about human rights, all reflecting Kuwait's keenness to further promote human rights. He said the ministry planned to publish booklets about rights of the child and woman, as well as human rights of expatriates. "We will document all these issues and highlight Kuwait's role in them." Al-Jarallah said Kuwait was member in international human rights agreements as well as being a member in the UN Human Rights Council. Asked about Geneva II, Al-Jarallah described negotiations between the Syrian government and opposition a "very tough." It is a long way before reaching an agreement, he said, and hoped the negotiations would have positive results. Asked about the date of the Arab Summit that would be held in Kuwait, Al-Jarallah said the meeting would be held on March 25-26.
