Arab League Secretary General of Arab League Dr. Nabil Al-Arabi on Monday discussed with the Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo, the latest developments in Syria. The Spanish minister voiced his country’s deep concern over the crisis in Syria, adding Bashar Al-Asad still has a chance to step down and leave the country. He said at a news conference after the meeting that Al-Assad can not be a part of the democratic transition in Syria. Margallo urged the Syrian Opposition to unite, pointing to the upcoming Syrian opposition’s meeting to be held soon in Cairo. He pointed out there is a possibility to recognize a transitional government in Syria, calling on the opposition to benefit from the experience of democratic transition in Spain, in dealing with the remnants of the former regime.
