The Arab League has condemned, in a statement, the latest repeated statements made by Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman against president Mahmoud Abbas, Palestine's news agency (WAFA) reported on Monday. Lieberman sent a letter to foreign ministers of the international Quartet for Middle East peace, in which he described President Mahmoud Abbas as an "obstacle to peace" and called for replacing him. It said that Lieberman’s statements indicate a lack of responsibilities, whether political or diplomatic. The statements made by Israeli foreign minister reflects Israel’s refusal to commit to its obligations towards the peace process and its refusal of any negotiated solutions and of the International Quartet’s latest statements, added the statement. It said Lieberman’s repeated statements against Abbas published Sunday on the Israeli Haartez newspaper, in which he urged the Israeli cabinet to issue ultimatum to PA president and thwart his UN bid, represent a challenge to the resolutions of the international legitimacy that recognize the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people. It expressed its full support to Abbas in facing all challenges; the Israeli intransigence policy, incitement campaigns by Lieberman with the support of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government, which refuses to obey the will of the international community to achieve a just and lasting peace in the Middle East.
