Secretary General of the Arab League Nabil el-Araby expressed his appreciation that Ghassan Hitto was elected as prime minister of the Syrian interim government. "It is pleasing that the Syrian National Coalition for Opposition and Revolutionary Forces (SNC) elected Hitto as prime minister of the Syrian interim government. I hope this development will be a step for the solution of the Syrian crisis," Araby said in a written statement. Araby also said that Hitto's election would support the work of Lakhdar Brahimi, the United Nations special envoy to Syria. Ghassan Hitto was elected prime minister of the Syrian interim government on March 18, by receiving 35 votes of the 62 at a SNC meeting in Istanbul.
