Arab League Secretary General Nabil al-Arabi has held several meetings in New York on the sidelines of the 66th session of the UN General Assembly, and as part of the Arab move in support for the Palestinian UN bid, the Arab League said in a statement last night. The Arab League chief held meetings with President of Kyrgyzstan Roza Otunbayeva, and the Foreign Ministers of Spain, Norway, Sweden and Kazakhstan, Trinidad Jimenez, Jonas Gahr Store, Carl Bildt and Yerzhan Kazykhanov respectively. During the meetings, al-Arabi stressed the importance of backing the official declaration of Palestine as an independent sovereign state on the basis of the 1967 borders and East Jerusalem as its capital. Cooperation between the Arab League and those countries was also discussed during the meetings.
