Armed men attacked a provincial governor's headquarters in western Afghanistan Thursday morning, dpa quoted local television and an official as saying. "A group of men armed with explosives and guns are currently attacking the governor's compound in Farah province this morning," the Tolo News television station said, quoting officials. A Western official based in Farah confirmed the incident, saying at least four suicide bombers launched the attack on the governor's building and adjacent houses. "One suicide bomber detonated his explosives, killing himself at the gate of the compound, while three others entered and started gunfire with the security forces," the official said on condition of anonymity. Local television quoted a police official saying that at least one Afghan security officer was dead. The fighting was ongoing.
