ASEAN FMs call for North Korea's complete, verifiable denuclearisation

The foreign ministers from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) on Friday called for the establishment of necessary conditions for prodding North Korea into pursuing complete and verifiable denuclearization, according to Yonhap News Agency.

The call was made at a meeting of the top diplomats from the 10-member ASEAN held in Kuala Lumpur on the sidelines of Asia's biggest security forum known as the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF).

"We called for the creation of necessary conditions for the early resumption of the six-party talks and continuous inter-Korean dialogue, which would pave the way for the complete and verifiable denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula in a peaceful manner and Korean reunification," showed a joint communique of the ASEAN foreign ministers' meeting.

The six-party talks involving South and North Korea, the United States, China, Japan and Russia have been stalled since late 2008 when the North walked out of the negotiation table.
