Attacks on Presidential Palace, NATO bases foiled in Kabul

Afghan Intelligence and National Directorate of Security (NDS) operatives on Monday foiled a coordinated attack plot on the Afghan Presidential Palace, Ministry of Defense and two NATO bases in capital Kabul, local Khaama reported.

A statement by NDS said at least four suspected militants were arrested in connection to the attack plot.

The statement further added that the suspected militants were arrested during an operation from the 8th police district of Kabul city.

It also added that the coordinated attack was plotted by Peshawar Shura of the Taliban militants group.

The suspects were identified as Obaidullah bin Abdul Hanif, Zia-ur-Rehman bin Ghulam Mustafa, Ajmal bin Esmat Khan and Sharifullah bin Qasim Khan, the statement added.

NDS also added that the supects were trained by Taliban's shadow deputy provincial governor for Kabul Qari Ishaq on the other side of Durand Line and were deployed to the city for the attack.

Afghan intelligence operatives confiscated a suicide bombing vest, 5 magnetic bombs, some explosives capsules and 7 sets of mobile phones from the suspects, NDS said.

The anti-government armed militant groups have not commented regarding the report so far.
