The African Union Peace and Security Council began a session on Wednesday to review a report on the situation in Egypt. The meeting is attended by representatives of member states of the AU council and senior AU officials. The council will hear a briefing by a high-level AU team that ended a visit to Egypt on August 4. A session will take place later to discuss the contents of the report in detail. The council is set to decide today on a previous decision to suspend Egypt's membership. Egypt's Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Delegate to the AU Mohamed Edriss told MENA that he is carrying out intensive contacts with the AU members and his counterparts to explain to them the truth about the conditions in Egypt. He promised that diplomatic efforts will continue to defend Egypt's interests and its people's legitimate aspirations at all international forums.
