The African Union (AU) is urging all stakeholders in Liberia to work together to ensure the upcoming presidential run-off proves a success. Chairperson of the Commission of the African Union Jean Ping is closely monitoring the developments in Liberia, following the Oct. 25 release on of the results of the first round of voting for the Liberian presidential election, the AU said on Wednesday. The press release sent to Xinhua by the AU said the election was held under conditions that have been judged by both the local and international observers as free, fair and credible. It said the chairperson calls upon all the Liberian stakeholders to do everything in their power to sustain this laudable display of electoral maturity and, therefore, facilitate the successful holding of the run-off, scheduled for Nov. 8. He stresses the need for all concerned to place the national interest above all other considerations and to demonstrate the required sense of patriotism. Ping wishes the Republic of Liberia a very successful run-off, and an enduring peaceful post-election atmosphere, the statement added.
