Australia to toughen laws against suspected militant

Australia is imposing tighter measures, namely tougher laws, against people seeking citizenship or immigration to the nation, Prime Minister Tony Abbott declared on Monday.
Speaking to reporters in the Australian capital, Canberra, Abbott said the government is seeking to alter some laws to enable relevant authorities bar citizens from attaining another nationality.
Australia will strip those, with connections with terrorist organizations, of their citizenship, said Abbott, whose remarks were monitored via media outlets here. Those condemned will be deprived of various privileges; they will not be able to travel or return to the country, get consular or social services.
Legal modifications target those who "preach hatred," he said, singling out the Islamic "Liberation Party which flagrantly promotes discords and divisions in the Australian society." Up to 90 Australians are fighting along "terrorist groups" in Iraq and Syria, he said, adding that 30 of them have returned home. The premier also added that 140 individuals in Australia support radical groups.
