Austria receives 7000 refugees from Slovenia in 24 hours

Austria received 7,000 refugees coming from Slovenia over the past 24 hours, according to the BBC Radio.

Austrian police said in a statement wired by the broadcaster that police are not capable of preventing thousands of refugees from pouring into the country.

Many people had to spend the night at a border crossing between Slovenia and Austria.

Meanwhile, the Austrian government approved granting 15 million euros in aid to humanitarian relief agencies.

Slovenia has become the main entry point into the European Union's passport-free Schengen zone after Hungary sealed its southern borders with razor-wire fences to stop refugees desperately trying to reach northern Europe before winter sets in.

Europe has been facing a major immigration problem since Syrians fled their war-torn state.
